Over this period, there were only 2 other innovations capable of providing water to higher areas, subterranean wells and cisterns, which gathered rainwater. To provide water to Pincian Hill in the early 16th century, they utilized the new strategy of redirecting the motion from the Acqua Vergine aqueduct’s underground network.
